EG World is Teeming with Teams – Presenting the EGR Rottweilers

There is little doubt that a majority view EG World.net as an environment where a community of gamers can share their opinions about games and gaming, seek or offer advice on strategy, and join in discussions and debates about a myriad of topics with people from around the world – and that is as it should be.

Surely, however, for a vast number of us, it also represents a chance to experience something that, in the world of online gaming, is very rare indeed – becoming part of a cohesive, organized Team.  And in the EG World, you won’t find any shortage of those.

So, for those of you who are tired of flying solo and are looking for a home, I dedicate this series of profile articles on the Teams of EG World.  I am proud and honored to open with a spotlight on its oldest and largest…the EGR Rottweilers.

Nearly five years ago, Berdo [Gamer tag: Rottie Berdo] formed this team with just six or so other players. They named themselves, “The Rottweilers” after Berdo’s pet dog named “Rottie” – or so the story goes.  (I’ll give you three guesses on Rottie’s breed.)  Since then, leadership of the Rottweilers has passed into the care of a select few of EG World’s finest and their membership strength has boomed to a massive 46 and counting.

What are their core principles?  “Respect for your leaders; respect for your team and building close friendships” explains EG Dirt [Gamer tag: EG Dirt58], former team leader and current EG World Chief Executive. “We’re like a family.  We have each other’s back, both in the game and in real life”.  Building on that list, current team leader C Mack [Gamer tag: CMack1980] adds “Respect for all gamers across the board”.

But don’t be fooled.  “The Dogs’, as they are known, aren’t a loose bunch of weekend warriors who get together every now and then to play a few random scrimmages.  These are a tight-knit, dedicated and disciplined team of men of women who are required to attend regular practices and training sessions.  They have a code of conduct that includes rules such as “Bring honor to your community, the game, your fellow gamers and yourself.  Earn the trust and loyalty of your team – don’t let your fellow gamers down.  Be accountable for your actions and decisions and encourage gamers to do the same. Lead by example – look after your gamers at all times” among others.  And yes, they have a uniform that must be worn, but unless you’re a Dog, don’t ask what it looks like.  As Dirt has told me more than once, “I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you”.

In order to stay frosty and test their skills, the Dogs will scrimmage with other teams across the net once or twice a month.  Just don’t go looking for them on the ladder ranking sites like ‘gamebattles.com’.  “We used to participate in that type of thing, but found that for the most part, a lot of the teams on those sites will cheat,” (by using Mod controllers and glitches, etc…) says C Mack.  Gamesmanship is important to the Dogs.  Besides, they’ve got nothing to prove.

[If your ambitions lay in climbing those battle site ladders, don’t despair, Gentle Readers.  EG’s teams have something for everyone.  Just stay tuned for future profiles – coming soon.]

However, it takes more than a steady aim and a winning smile to become a member of this elite troupe.  For an example of the type of fortitude it takes to attract the attention of the Rottweilers, take a lesson from this story that C Mack and Dirt relayed to me.

The Dogs were playing a Team Deathmatch against a random group of players.  As you might expect, they were using this poor group to set a new definition of the term “savage beat down.”  After locking them into their spawn, the players on the other team started quitting the game in droves – all but one.  This guy stuck it out and spent the last two full minutes of the game doing his best to take the Dogs out all the while getting new holes added to his head over and over again.  They recruited him on the spot.

If this group of battle tested “hard hitters” sounds right up your alley, keep on the lookout for Rottweilers prowling around the online room you’re playing in.  They are always looking for new pack members.

Community pride, a good attitude, never giving in, taking your wins with class and good sportsmanship and keeping your cool and grace in the face of a loss, these are qualities common to all of the teams across EG…and none more so than the EGR Rottweilers.
